Elton John 75 jaar

Vandaag wordt deze opvallende zanger, pianist en componist 75 jaar. Zelf ben ik vooral fan van de albums die Elton in het begin van z'n carrière heeft gemaakt.

Vooral de albums uit het begin van de jaren 70 mag ik graag horen. Toen de DDD z'n intreden deed is Elton aan mijn aandacht ontsnapt. Met DDD bedoel ik in dit geval niet de codering op CD's maar bedoel ik Drank, Drugs en Disco. Dat heeft hem geen goed gedaan!

Het is ook lastig om je voor te stellen dat Elton wel met plezier aan die periode terug zal denken. Gelukkig heeft deze briljante liedjesmaker zich herpakt en naast zelf muziek maken zet hij zich graag in voor anderen.

Elton is dan ook tot ridder geslagen omwille van zijn enorme inzet voor liefdadigheidswerk. Hij zou wat mij betreft ook een lintje mogen krijgen hoe hij jong muziektalent helpt om in het zadel te geraken.

Als er een docu over Elton is kan ik daar echt van smullen omdat het beslist een opmerkelijke en invloedrijke artiest is. Een beetje gek en vooral over de top. Prima want we hebben al genoeg keurslijven in deze maatschappij.

Het album Elton John bewaar ik voor het laatst. Op dat album een van de fraaiste love-songs: "Your Song" waarvan Elton zegt dat het nog steeds z'n beste liefdesliedje is. Wat mij betreft heeft hij gelijk!
